Hazard’s current contract at Stamford
Bridge doesn’t run out until 2020, but
Chelsea are keen to tie their star player to a
new lucrative deal in order to fend off
potential suitors.
The Belgium international is yet to put pen
to paper on new terms, prompting further
speculation he could be looking for a move
this summer.
His dad, Thierry Hazard, recently claimed the
27-year-old is putting off signing a new
deal in the hope Real will make a move for
him in the summer.
And reports in Spain have suggested
Hazard tops their transfer list for the
summer, along with the likes of Harry Kane
and Mauro Icardi.
However, The Mirror claim Real will now
face competition from Premier League
high-flyers City for Hazard’s signature.
It is said Pep Guardiola’s side are willing to
pay a British transfer record worth
£150million to bring Hazard to the Etihad.
The report suggests Hazard would earn
similar wages to Kevin De Bruyne, who
agreed to a new five-year deal with City
earlier this week worth close to £350,000-
a-week.
While City have the chance of winning the
quadruple this season, Real have been in
free-fall this season.
Having won the La Liga and Champions
League double last term, Zinedine Zidane’s
side have slipped 19 points behind
Barcelona in the league and are in serious
danger of not even finishing in the top
four.
Hazard has admitted Zidane is a childhood
hero of his, but City are reportedly
confident the pull of working under
Guardiola will give them the edge if it came
down to a decision between the two
teams.
Chelsea have proven in the past they are
not afraid of selling their stars if the right
price comes in with Romelu Lukaku, Juan
Mata, Ocar and Nemanja Matic notable
departures over recent seasons.
